The High Museum of Art is the premiere art museum of the Southeast and has the distinction of being called the Louvre Atlanta, with an official endorsement from Paris' famous institution. The museum's impressive permanent collection ranges from European paintings, Southern folk art, to African American photography. The museum, which is part of the Woodruff Arts Center, completed a major renovation in 2005 by renown Italian architect Renzo Piano making the Midtown area of Atlanta a cultural oasis.
