50 Upper Alabama St SW Atlanta, GA 30303(404) 523-2311 |
Underground Atlanta's colorful history started with construction of concrete "viaducts" in the 1920s over the business area causing the street to move up one level to create an underground area for storage and service. The area was declared a historic site and was revitalized in 1989 to a shopping and entertainment complex featuring restaurants, nightclubs, and bar options. The Underground hosts a variety of annual events such as Oktoberfest, St. Pat's Festival, and the ING Georgia Marathon. The complex is located within the Five Points district, just west of the Georgia State University campus.
