American Civil War

Atlanta was one of the most important railroad and military supply hubs in the Confederacy. The Union invaded the city in 1864 and was the scene of a number of important battles. Burned to the ground in 1865 by General Sherman, the city was rebuilt and now contains a number of important historical sites dedicated to the history of that famous war.
